Surprise! Scarlett Johansson Started a Band With One of the Haim Sisters.

This isn’t the first time Johansson dipped her toe into the music world (she recorded a pretty passable collection of Tom Waits covers in 2008) but it’s probably the most surprising. Meet The Singles, an all-girl band comprised of Johansson, Este Haim (the eldest Haim sister), Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. Their first single is called “Candy” (it’s produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek) and it’s a flashy bit of ’60s-inspired sugar pop, funneled through Madonna. “The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” Johansson said in a press release. “I love Grimes. And I love the Bangles. And I love the Go-Go’s. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.” See how well the joke holds up over at Rolling Stone
