Roger Ebert’s Cancer Returns; Steps Away from Film Criticism

Legendary movie critic Roger Ebert is taking a leave from his duties as a writer for the Chicago Sun-Times, as he battles with a recurrence of cancer. The 70-year-old critic released a statement that said that a recent leg fractured was determined to be caused by cancer, and the radiation treatments are making it too difficult for him to attend movie screenings.

In 2006 during a fight with cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands, Ebert had his lower jaw removed, and lost the ability to speak. The writer and movie critic called the most recent move a “leave of presence” and said he has no plans of going away or retiring—he even said that is currently planning on relaunching his personal website that contains archives of his reviews …
