It was announced a while back that Maroon 5 would be performing for the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show. But turns out, the pop band, wasn’t the first choice for the show.
According to a US Weekly report, Rihanna declined an offer to headline the most watched TV event in the world. Why? She stands with Colin Kaepernick. An insider told the magazine that she turned down the offer because “she doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”
Colin Kaepernick has become the face of a movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police brutality towards unarmed black Americans. He’s been a free agent for the past two seasons and is now the face of the latest Nike campaign. The tagline of the campaign is: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
Rapper Jay-Z also declined performing at last year’s Super Bowl for the same reason: He stands with Kap.
