When you think of Jim Carrey, the words “gifted artist” may not be the first thing that springs to mind. True, he was one of the great comedic talents of the 90s and showcased real acting prowess in movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotlight Mind and Man on the Moon, but still …artist? Nevertheless, a new video captures a very different side of Carrey than the spaztastic rubberface we’re familiar with. Carrey discusses his recent re-discovery of a childhood love for the visual arts, and how it’s helped him heal from an emotionally traumatic past few years. What’s more, painting and sculpting is clearly more than a little side gig for Carrey. He’s got a real talent.
It’s obvious from the video that Carey is fascinated by the person of Jesus without quite knowing what to make of him. “I don’t know if Jesus is real,” Carrey admits, but he finds him an endlessly compelling subject. “I wanted you to have the feeling when you look in his eyes that he was accepting of who you are.” This hearkens back to his words a few weeks ago, where he discussed his thoughts about Jesus existing in the midst of suffering.
