The story that never gets tired of the telling is how, in 1991, Kevin Shields and his band, My Bloody Valentine, released Loveless. It was a bizarre, impossible conundrum of sound and feelings that bankrupted its studio, tortured Shields past the point of mental stability and was about as influential as an indie-rock album could be. It’s the holy grail of indie rock, and rumors of a mythical third album is to music nerds what the “Q” document is to biblical scholars. Loveless was, honestly, about the last anyone heard of My Bloody Valentine until Friday, when they did what even Justin Timberlake dared not to: dropped an entire album on their site to download. No singles. No previews. Just jams. That website crashed in a few hours but seems to running smoothly now.
