Nearly 30 years ago, the music world was rocked when a relatively unknown 21-year-old Canadian singer dropped her debut album, Jagged Little Pill. Now, Alanis Morissette’s rise to fame is finally getting the documentary treatment.
Jagged, HBO’s next installment of its Music Box series, takes fans back to Morissette’s beginning in 1995. The documentary chronicles her journey as a young female pushing her way into a male0dominated rock scene. Morissette herself speakers to the audience about the hardships she had to overcome to be the star she knew she wanted to be.
“People would say, ‘Wow you’re so brave, you’re so empowered,'” Morissette said. “I can’t write all these songs without being dis-powered.”
