Trailer: Charli XCX’s New Documentary Shows a Fandom on Lockdown

Charli XCX has been incredibly prolific over the last few years, between 2019’s futuristic pop wonderland Charli, 2020’s lofi bedroom opus how i’m feeling now and this year’s excellent single “Good Ones.” Now it turns out that over the course of recording how i’m feeling now, she was also recording a documentary about her life in quarantine — a documentary called Alone Together that will be debuting at SXSW.

Charli XCX has always been honest, even by the modern standards of pop confessionals. She’s a pop star who’s held at a remove from the upper stratosphere of stardom, for reasons that aren’t immediately clear, and she’s spoken openly about her frustrations with the industry and her own anxiety about not measuring up. You can hear her air those fears with a lot of vulnerability and emotion in this trailer.

But what Charli fans lack in numbers they make up for in devotion, and Alone Together shows how her music kept a lot of them sane in pandemic season. Should be interesting to check out.
