Trailer: Wait, Is Emma Stone’s ‘Cruella’ Movie Going to Be Amazing?

When we first heard that Disney was working on a Cruella DeVille origin movie, it was hard to not write the whole thing off as an attempt to give the Disney Tweens their own Joker movie. When it was announced that Emma Stone had signed on, we got a little more curious. It’s not every day a generational talent says yes to a movie like this. And now we’ve got another trailer and we gotta admit …we’re kind of feeling it. It remains to be seen just how Disney is going to pull off getting you to root for a future Dalmation puppy skinner, but the performances and set design here all look superb, with Stone and Emma Thompson really sinking their teeth into what’s coming across like a campy satire of girlboss culture. It’s being directed by Craig Gillespie who’s made some great movies like I, Tonya and Lars and the Real Girl and was written by Tony McNamara, who wrote The Favourite — maybe Stone’s best work to date. So, yeah …is this movie going to be amazing? We’ll know this summer.
