Apple’s first foray into prestige drama is underway with a bracing, hard-hitting deep dive into the hell of opioid addiction. Cherry is directed by the Russo brothers, who helmed the last handful of Captain America and Avengers movies for Marvel, but this looks like quite a departure. Reunited with their Infinity War star Tom Holland, the Russos tell a tale of a life gone wildly awry in the throes of addiction. Holland plays a U.S. Army medic who returns home from war, shaken by PTSD. He develops an addiction which soon turns him and his wife (newcomer Ciara Bravo) to a life of crime.
So, yeah, it’s a lot. The movie is planning for a brief theatrical run at the end of February before debuting on Apple in March.
