Trailer: Nicole Kidman Will Remind You Why We Love Lucy in Aaron Sorkin’s ‘Being the Ricardos’

Javier Bardem is Desi Arnaz and Nicole Kidman is Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin’s big biopic about one of the most famous and successful Hollywood stars of all time, Being the Ricardos. Ball tore through cultural taboos and glass ceilings like they didn’t exist, becoming the first female head of a movie studio, which she also owned. She and her husband starred in I Love Lucy, the most-watched TV show of its time which ended its spectacular run at the top of the Nielsen ratings, becoming one of the most famous and influential sitcoms in television history, influencing everything from Friends to Sorkin’s own Sports Night.

It’s the sort of all-American tale that’s irresistible for a writer and director of Sorkin’s persuasion, especially when you’ve got talents like Kidman and Bardem involved. The trailer doesn’t give us a close look at Kidman, who doesn’t look a whole lot like Ball but, hey, Jessica Chastain doesn’t look much like Tammy Faye, and that worked out alright. We’ll see if she can inhabit Ball’s unique energy or if Sorkin will have some explaining to do at Christmas, when the movie will premier in theaters and on Amazon Prime.
