Trailer: In ‘The Kid Detective,’ Adam Brody Is an Encyclopedia Brown-Type All Grown Up

The Kid Detective has a delicious premise: what if one of those precocious pre-teen super sleuths from kid’s lit grew up into a jaded has-been? Adam Brody stars as Abe Applebaum, a one-time Encyclopedia Brown-type now struggling as a private eye scraping by solving juvenile puzzlers that make for good chapter book fodder but don’t exactly pay the bills. But then, one day, an actual case involving a brutal murder most foul falls into his lap and Abe has to bring all of his elementary wits to bear. Writer/director Evan Morgan drops a shady, noir-y energy over the whole trailer, promising down and dirty hijinks. Looks like a lot of fun, if you’re willing to take a chance on the theater which we, uh, can’t recommend.
