Dave Bautista, Edward Norton and Janelle Monae Have Joined ‘Knives Out’ Sequel

The Knives Out sequel is coming together quickly, with the ongoing adventures of Benoit Blanc promising to become a major franchise as Netflix has already greenlit two whole movies for almost half a million dollars. We don’t know anything about the plot or just what Daniel Craig will be facing this time, but we know who he’ll be facing it with, as the movie is putting together an eye-popping cast.

Dave Bautista (Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy), Edward Norton (Birdman) and Janelle Monae (Hidden Figures) have all been added to the cast, which is being put together by writer/director Rian Johnson. Johnson netted an Oscar nomination for the script of the first Knives Out movie, which garnered a cool $311.4 million on its $40 million budget. Not bad for a movie that started out because Craig was bored while the latest 007 movie got its act together.

In addition to being a cracking good mystery, the first Knives Out movie was also an uncommonly poignant look at how goodness — though often perceived as a sign of naivety or weakness — can actually be a source of strength, cunning and audacity. The new movies promise to go a different direction entirely (word is, they’re filming in Europe) so it’s not clear just how much connection there will be from Knives Out entry to entry. But given Johnson’s longtime obsession with exploring humanity’s capacity for compassion, don’t be surprised if that’s where this one goes too.
