Anya Taylor-Joy Gets Spooky in the Trailer for Edgar Wright’s ‘Last Night in Soho’

Edgar Wright is one of the most technically proficient and fussy filmmakers of his generation, putting a gobsmacking amount of effort into making sure his movies like Scott Pilgrim VS the World, Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver have a distinct look, feel and rhythm. Now, he’s back with Last Night in Soho, a spooky movie about …well, what is it about? Looks like a time travel ghost story with maybe a dash of murder mystery involved? It all involves The Queen’s Gambit‘s Anya Taylor-Joy as a 1960s wannabe starlet named Sandy and Jojo Rabbit’s Thomasin McKenzie as a modern day girl who becomes enamored by Sandy when she realizes she can time travel (or something?) back to Sandy’s era. And then, obviously, nothing bad whatsoever happens and both women lead healthy, safe, non-scary lives.

Just kidding, of course. What we should have said is “and then the screaming starts.”

Last Night in Soho will also star Shadow and Bone’s Jessie Mei Lei, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, Lisa McGrillis, Harry Potter‘s the Phelps twins and the late, great Diana Rigg.

In a podcast interview, Taylor-Joy described the movie as “very claustrophobic. The colors are so intense. It’s a really well-directed acid trip. I think people will really like it. You definitely will not be bored.” Well, after a year in quarantine, not being bored sounds amazing. Let’s do it. Last Night in Soho will be in theaters in October.
