Like just about everyone in the world right now, Jake Johnson is currently self-isolating and trying to figure out ways to pass the time and help other people through the coronavirus pandemic. And the former New Girl star and voice of Peter Parker on Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse has found a way to kill two birds with one stone: giving kids stuck at home a personalized, encouraging voice memo from Spider-Man himself.

Johnson took to Instagram to say he’d heard a lot of parents are killing time with their kids by watching the almost insanely excellent Into the Spiderverse movie, and it inspired him to put his character role to good use there. “If your child is home from school and wants a quick encouraging message from Peter B Peter, then send me an email with their name and I’ll try and send over a short voice note,” Johnson said. “If I don’t get to you, I apologize.”

As more than one person noted in the comments, this is a fun case of reality echoing fiction.

In an episode of New Girl, Johnson’s character (Nick) reveals that he’s been conning his lifelong friend Schmidt (Max Greenfield) by pretending to send him encouraging letters from Michael Keaton, and the rest of the gang gets in on the act. A classic.
