Here’s the First Photo From the NWA Biopic, ‘Straight Outta Compton’

You could make a pretty compelling case for NWA being history’s most influential rap group. Though only around as an actual group for about five stormy years, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren flipped hip-hop on its head. Their lyrics were hyper-controversial and frequently banned, but NWA’s stories about Compton were the first time much of America heard about the realities of life in the projects. It was also the first time a lot of mainstream America took to rap, period.

Now, the group is getting a biopic, directed by F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) and starring Corey Hawkins as a young Dre and Jason Mitchell as Easy-E. Ice Cube will be played by his actual son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. The rest of the group has yet to be cast, but we’ve got a photo of the actors and the iconic rappers they’ll be portraying. The film is set to release next August …
