Here’s a Look at ‘Black Earth Rising,’ a Miniseries About International War Crimes

Black Earth Rising is a TV drama series about the prosecution of war crimes in Africa. It’s an uncommon subject for a major BBC series, no less one starring actors as clouted as Michaela Coel and John Goodman. Check out the trailer above.

The show covers a legal investigator as she’s caught up in a case against an African militia leader. Shooting took place largely in Ghana. The series comes from writer-director Hugo Blick, who won acclaim (and a Peabody, and a Golden Globe) for his BBC drama The Honourable Woman in 2014. Black Earth Rising will be coming to BBC Two and Netflix later this year.
