With a few percussive flicks of a switch and a blaring guitar chord, we have our first teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Disney and Lucasfilm have until this point been cagey about details regarding their next Star Wars movie, likely due to the directorial shakeup that happened at the end of production, when Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were ousted in favor of Ron Howard. Lord and Miller are known for their improvisational, loose style, and Howard is more of a grandeur-focused, spectacle-oriented filmmaker.
The two styles show in the trailer. There are plenty of sharp edits and slick pans that bring Howard to mind, but the capper is decidedly riffy and humor-centric. If you ask us, the jury is still decidedly out on this one, though the trailer does at least convey an encouraging level of base competence.
Oh, and more Donald Glover as Lando in the next trailer, please. He looks awesome. Solo hits theaters May 25.
