Clean, “Christian” versions of popular songs is a trait nearly as old as pop music itself. “Why should the devil have all the good music?” as the saying (variously attributed to John Wesley, Martin Luther and William Booth) goes.
Usually, someone (say, the Apologetix) comes along and swaps out a pop song’s bluer elements for something clean, wholesome and sanctifying — like Weird Al but Christian. But the version below is a unique case, as you will soon see. The “Cha Cha Slide” was never exactly in need of a Christian overhaul (well, except for the dancing part) but it hooo boy, did it get one.
Hmmm. “Spiritual milk”? “Two souls this time”? “Pray it out”? These parts are, well, odd. But maybe stranger are the lyrical changes that don’t appear to have anything to do with Christian remixing at all, like, “win win!” or “don’t look to the right”. But hey, looks like everyone had a great time.
This video appeared to have been published to YouTube way back in 2012 where it languished in obscurity, but it was unearthed on Twitter by Atsuko Okatsuka.
