Last year, Animal Planet caused a public stir when it aired what appeared to be an actual nature documentary called Mermaids: The Body Found that made a pretty compelling case that terrifying looking mermaid monsters actually existed. So many people were fooled by the show (that was part of the network’s annual “Monster Week”) that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration actually had to issue a statement ensuring the public that merpeople remain completely fictional. This week, the network aired another, very real looking film called Mermaids: The New Evidence, once again fooling a sizable portion of its gullible audience into believing that new evidence of a mermaid population had been uncovered. So, just in case you are wondering, the government organization NOAA has felt it necessary to clear things up and remind visitors to its website that unfortunately, “No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found” …
