Today, the official trailer for “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” a documentary about TV star Fred Rogers, was released.
The trailer promises to highlight the revolutionary quality of the famous Mr. Rogers and his television show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
It defied the conventions of “good TV” at the time and presented images of neighborliness that were subversive of cultural norms of the day. If the trailer is any indication, audiences are going to learn that Mr. Rogers was not some pushover in a sweater but a gentle revolutionary.
Mr. Rogers would have turned 9o today. And although he’s been gone for some time, his legacy lives on, and his message is just as relevant as it was in his heyday. The film is in theaters this summer.
