Brian Williams Has Admitted That He Lied About Being Shot At in Iraq

In 2003, star NBC news anchor Brian Williams recounted story of his time reporting in Iraq in which a Chinook helicopter he was in was shot down over Baghdad. He has told this story a few times, most recently last week. But now, the CH-47 Chinook crew told military paper Stars & Stripes that the whole thing never happened. A helicopter was shot down that day, but not one that Williams was on or even near. And now, it seems, Williams has come clean. He walked back the entire story to Stars & Stripes, saying “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”

Williams did write an apology to the crew of that helicopter, which you can read here
