Could Benedict Cumberbatch be joining Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars reboot? According to this report, the British star may be in talks to take a major role in the coming sequel. As with anything related to the franchise, it’s still an unverified, Internet rumor at this point, but Cumberbatch’s love for the sci-fi epic is well-documented. In an interview with Total Film back in May, he said, “I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it’s immediate storytelling, very simple—a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way—and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them. I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo.” Of course it wouldn’t be the first time Cumberbatch has teamed with Abrams for a sci-fi bockbuster—the paparazzi-loathing Sherlock actor recently starred in the director’s other major franchise, playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness.
