Actress Loses 100,000 Followers for Tweeting about Gun Safety

Just how polarizing is the gun debate in America? TV star Katee Sackhoff, best known for her roles on shows like 24, Battlestar Galactia and Longmire, found out after losing almost half of her Twitter followers after a few tweets about the need for gun safety. The strange thing is, none of the tweets were even that controversial. It all started when she retweeted a CNN headline about a 4-year-old who fatally shot his father, adding “Please practice gun safety. This is horrible!” That seemingly politically neutral, common sense statement sparked a debate among her followers about gun control laws. Her next tweet, which also seemed relatively neutral, was a response to several followers that read, “Never gonna happen in the US. Proper gun safety is a necessity though. RT @FulsomPrison: @kateesackhoff @CNN @cnni Here’s a radical idea folks. How about NO gun?”

That simple exchange, along with the fact that she dared to address the need for gun safety, was enough for 100,000 fans to unfollower her instantly. She seemed to take the whole thing in stride though. During the fallout, she tweeted, “On a lighter note since I’ve lost half my followers due to talking about gun safety…the sun is shining & Happy Monday! Love your neighbor today!” …
