Before she was the New Girl, Zooey Deschanel was the “She” of She & Him, a winsomely vintage hipster folk act that gets a little too cute for its own good now and then (their new album will be available as a “turquoise cassette”, but never loses its charm. The “Him,” of course, is M. Ward, and they’ve got a new album coming out later this summer. The first track, “I Could’ve Been Your Girl” keeps with the duo’s penchant for lovelorn lyrics over weightless melodies, but it’s the best song they’ve released in a while.
