A Comedy Poking Fun at the Faith-Based Film Industry Is In the Works

An on-the-rise writer/director duo is going to be tackling the subject of faith-based movies in a new comedy. Faith Based will satirize the Christian film industry by focusing on “two idiot friends who realize that all faith-based films make ‘buckets of cash’ and then set out to make one such movie of their own,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Director Vincent Masciale and writer Luke Barnett are taking the lead on this project.

They’ve sent up “genres” of movies before; their first project was festival darling Fear, Inc., a horror send-up. Both guys are veterans of comedy website Funny Or Die.

If the last season of The Simpsons taught us anything (their episode “Bart’s Not Dead” essentially has this movie’s exact same premise), the faith-based film landscape is ripe with comedic material. We’ll remain cautiously optimistic about this project. Like any great comedy, we’re hopeful it comes from a place of expertise concerning the source material.

In other words: We hope these guys watch a ton of faith movies to prepare. We wish them the best of luck.
