The Episcopalian Church has approved an official liturgy for priests who perform same-sex unions; a liturgy which can be given with the approval of a bishop, and with or without the approval of the state. The Episcopalian Church has, for some time, been noted for its support of the advancement of LGBT rights, but the adoption of an official liturgy is significant for its permanence. The Church's resolution clearly allows priests and bishops to opt out of blessing same-sex unions, and the language of the rite veers away from calling them "marriages," instead referring to same sex unions as "The Witnessing and Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant" ...
