A judge in Texas has ruled in favor of a group of high school cheerleaders in the small town of Dillon, or uh, Kountze, saying that there is no law preventing them from using inspirational Bible verses on banners at football games. The case stems from administrators at the small town school in Texas asking cheerleaders not to display banners like one with the words, “If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31" on it, fearing lawsuits from groups like The Freedom of Religion Foundation. The judge’s message to the cheerleaders: Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose. Now go get ‘em Panthers, or whatever your mascot there in Kountze is! … Discuss

It doesn’t matter if you’re a football fan or not, this video of 7-year-old brain cancer patient Jack Hoffman scoring a touchdown in front of 60,000 Cornhusker fans is the most inspiring thing you’ll see all day. The young Nebraska fan was invited to participate in the team’s spring scrimmage, but didn’t expect to have this special play drawn up for him at the end of the game … Discuss

Are you in the NFL? If so, thanks for reading, but please be careful. New studies are showing that spending your waking life getting your brain smashed into pancake batter has some adverse effects, like tripling your risk for neurological diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Some recent changes to rules regarding contact and tackling in the NFL look to address those problems head-on, so to speak, but researchers stressed there could be any number of factors linking neurodegeneration and football, and they might not necessarily be related to tackles. The NFL responded by announcing plans to donate $30 million to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health to address these issues, so hopefully more answers will be discovered soon ... Around here, we've been watching the high's and low's of former Miami Dolphin Chad Johnson's career for a while. But that career, as you probably know, has come to a screeching, irrevocable low owing to his arrest for resorting to physical violence during a dispute with his wife. HBO's Hard Knocks got footage of his firing at the hands of Head Coach Joe Philbin, and it is a brutal, can't-look-away picture of a man who sees his empire crumbling because of his one big mistake ...

Applying for college is a difficult, emotional process that often involves a lot very grandiose attempts to prove yourself as being separated from the pack, several sleepless night of studying for standardized tests, a mountain of paperwork and, for many of us, our first brush with rejection. Or, in the case of Dylan Moses, an eighth-grader—albeit a 6 foot, 225 lb. eighth grader, but an eighth-grader nevertheless, for whom the prospect of college has probably only barely begun to sink in— a full scholarship to play football for the Louisiana State University Tigers. Of course, Dylan ran the 40 in 4.6 seconds and has a 34-inch vertical leap, so he's not exactly your average eighth grader, but one thing's for sure: he will spend his senior year a lot less stressed out than his peers. Good luck, Dylan. Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't pay a dime for college ... Discuss

The NCAA sent a strong message today, dealing Penn State a crushing $60 million fine, a four year post-season ban and a 14 season record book wipe, erasing 114 victories from history and officially revoking head coach Joe Paterno's record as football's "winningest coach." The school will also have to forego 10 scholarships this season, and 20 over the following 4 years. NCAA President Mark Emmert made the announcements Monday morning, saying that Penn State's Sandusky scandal had been "unprecedented" ... Discuss
