It's the end of 2005 and everyone who knows about movies is doing his or her best to rustle through their ticket stubs and pick out their top 10 of 2005. It's a great idea, but what about all those other movies?

Well, 2005 has breathed its last. The musical year that began with Ashlee Simpson getting booed off the stage at the Orange Bowl and climaxed with Mariah Carey’s less-than-earth-shattering performance on New Year’s Eve as a depressingly feeble Dick Clark gazed on. In 2005, 50 Cent continued his inexplicable presence on the top-40 charts, nu-rock refuses to die, “My Humps” has somehow captured the American imagination, and “artists” like Big & Rich and Rob Thomas have Grammy nominations. Our culture likes to look back, though only as far as its fickle, wild eyes can see. Hence, VH1's Best Week Ever is about as good of a retrospective tradition we have these days—that and the annual bonanza of year-end top ten lists. So in keeping with the trend, I’ve decided to look back on things that made 2005 memorable, if not terribly significant.
