The soft glow of the fire greeted me as I joined my friends along the channel. It was a picturesque evening. Wind and waves. Force and motion. Roots and trees. Creator and creation. One cannot exist without the first. It gives meaning, substance, depth and even sustenance to the other.

So many days, I focus on one half of that equation. I forget why and busy myself with things that kill my spirit. I forget Who and lose sight of the One I truly love. My meaning, substance, depth, sustenance ... every part of me is wrapped up in Him. The words echo in my head:

I pull my bike out of the shed, and bump up the stairs that lead to the driveway. Since my house is built into a hill there are two living levels, each opening out to gently sloping turf. Access to the roadway is on the higher level.

Quickly checking over the brakes and shifter mechanism, I strap on my helmet and push the bike up the driveway to the road. The first part of the descent is fairly mild. It's a beautiful day and the sun is shining and the birds are singing. It must be around 80 degrees F. Read More
