After the Florida Prayer Network successfully sought to place a nativity scene in the Florida state capitol building, a group of atheists have decided to make their own display to express their feelings about the separation of church and state—a Festivus pole. And to drive their point home—and make the Seinfeld anti-holiday reference even more ridiculous—they’re decorating the aluminum pole with empty beer cans. A South Florida atheist behind the display told The Orlando Sentinel, the fixture is “my ridiculous statement versus what I consider, as an atheist, as their ridiculous statement.” What next?
