‘Son of God’ Headed to the Big Screen

Following the mega-success of their scriptural miniseries The Bible, husband and wife producing team Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are taking the story of Christ to the big screen with Son of God. The duo has announced that a special, edited down version of their History Channel series—2 hours and 15 minutes that focus on the story of Jesus—will be released to movie theaters on Feb. 28 (the weekend before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.) Burnett told USA Today, “We believe firmly this is God’s plan. There’s no other explanation for it. This is not even some little limited independent release. This is a major motion picture release.” The team behind the film and the original Bible show are also working on a new miniseries, this time for NBC. A.D.: Beyond the Bible, will pick up where The Bible left off, focusing on the early New Testament church …
