With all the stories about crime and violence constantly in the news, it’s always refreshing to hear stories like this. This weekend in New York, three twentysomethings jumped onto subway tracks to save a fellow commuter’s life. With the train only a minute away, a man who appeared to be intoxicated fell onto the tracks and was knocked unconscious. That’s when the three heroes took action, going onto the tracks to lift the stranger to safety. One of the heroes, 23-year-old Dennis Codrington, told The New York Post that, for him, the incident “puts a whole new perspective on everything” … Discuss

 

As the Eastern Seaboard begins cobbling back together some semblance of normalcy following the superstorm's landfall, sad numbers are being confirmed about the loss of human life. A mother lost her grip on her two sons in the waves. A young teen girl trapped in her house as it flooded. All told, 56 deaths have been confirmed in the wake of Sandy's path, and that number is expected to rise. President Barack Obama told press that clean-up would be swift. "We are not going to tolerate red tape, we are not going to tolerate bureaucracy," Obama said. "And I've instituted a 15-minute rule, essentially, on my team. You return everybody's phone calls in 15 minutes, whether it's the mayor's, the governor's, county officials. If they need something, we figure out a way to say yes" ... Discuss

 

It was touch-and-go for a few months there, but it looks like the nation is finally coming back from the dangerous outbreak of Linsanity that brought to the the brink of total Linstinction. Jeremy Lin has been quarantined away from New York City, where Linsanity was at its peak, and is safely in Houston where the good people of Texas can monitor him carefully. Of course, not everyone was happy about this necessary measure. Notably, 5-year-old Naim, whose teary breakdown at the news of the trade went viral. Lin, hearing of the Naim's heartbreak, took to Skype to reassure the kid that the Knicks are still in good hands and, uh-oh, Lin shows that he is still the best and the country is in danger of yet another bout of Linsanity.
