Hasan Minhaj Might Be Taking Over ‘The Daily Show’ Permanently

A familiar face may be returning to late-night comedy.

Rumors are circulating that Hasan Minhaj may be returning to The Daily Show, a year after former host Trevor Noah stepped down. Variety reports that Hasan Minaj is currently the leading candidate to fill the void left by Noah’s departure.

Comedy Central has been exploring its options, enlisting a string of temporary hosts, including former Daily Show correspondents and guests that include Minhaj, Leslie Jones, Sarah Silverman, Roy Wood and more.

Minhaj originally joined The Daily Show back in 2014, before moving on to his own Netflix-produced show, The Patriot Act, from 2018 to 2020.

Minhaj has not commented on the rumors, but during his temporary hosting gig in February, he took the time to reminisce on his time there.

“It really was my comedy undergrad,” Minhaj said. “I owe everything in my career to that show. It was the show that gave me health insurance, it was the show that gave me an opportunity to work with Jewish Yoda Jon Stewart. I got to work with Trevor Noah, who was absolutely incredible, and what he brought to the show was so different, and the thing that I certainly hope for it is I hope I bring something new to the show.”

It is important to note Minhaj has not yet been officially hired, and like the rest of Hollywood’s writers and performers, he is currently on strike.
