Elevation Worship’s Tiffany Hudson Releases Her Debut Solo Album

Tiffany Hudson never planned on being a solo artist.

As a worship leader and member of Elevation Worship, Hudson years collaborating alongside artists to create some of the most popular worship songs today, including the Grammy Award-winning “Graves Into Gardens.” But in early 2022, Hudson began toying with the idea of creating her own solo project.

“After a season of what felt like a creative drought, I began to sit down at my piano and felt the Lord begin to download songs and themes,” she said. “This began a personal journey of sitting with Him, writing, co-writing and desiring to present the things He placed in my heart. It’s always a humbling experience to try and pen God’s wonder. It’s a weight and a responsibility to put confessions in other people’s mouths to say to God.”

Hudson released her solo debut album, Hidden Here, last week. We caught up with her to find our more about the creation of the album and what inspires her to create more music.

This conversation has been edited for clarity.

What’s the message or theme of Hidden Here

This album is all about living a life of devotion to the Lord. There are themes of surrender and consecration throughout the songs. In so many ways, this collection of songs are my response to the Lord, saying lyrics like, “Pour me out like water, pour me out like oil, there is not another so worthy of it all.” Or “I will obey, not because I have to, but because I love you,” or “when he comes I’ll be ready.” The album encapsulates the desire to truly live a life devoted to the Lord in our everyday lives.
Did you always want to be a singer-songwriter?
I grew up in a ministry family and always have had the desire to serve the church as I’d seen my family do my whole life!. Singing and songwriting came along the way, but it started with a desire to serve the church. I always loved to sing, but it was never about singing for me. It took me years to find my voice as a songwriter, but patiently cultivating that gift has been a wonderful journey that I’m still growing in.
What inspired you to create a solo album?
I never had a desire to do a solo project until I felt the Lord begin to invite me into a process of writing and discovering some things that were on His heart in early 2022. After a season of what felt like creative drought, I felt like the Lord started to download inspiration from His word, and my time with Him in the morning became more real than ever. As the Lord spoke to me, I felt charged to write a response to Him through song. Often times in my life, I’ve felt like the Lord has led me step by step, so for now, this little offering is that next step.
What was it like to work on a solo project versus with a group like Elevation?
With the support and encouragement of my church, it was so beautiful to be able to work on this solo project. As a first timer, I learned so much about what it means to sit in the driver seat and truly trust the direction the Lord was leading me. I wasn’t used to being the final say on arrangements or production, so it really challenged me to grow in my leadership. Although, many decisions would land on me, this project is the product of many gifted people that poured their hearts and gifts into this. There’s nothing “solo” about doing a solo project. I felt so blessed to be in such a supportive environment with many people willing to contribute in whatever way needed.
What was it like working with artists you don’t normally collaborate with?
I felt so blessed to be able to write and collaborate with people I’ve looked up to my whole life, like Steffany Gretzinger and Jason Ingram. It was a dream come true to be able to have their mark on this project. The day we wrote “Break The Bottle” was so special and worshipful. A lot of times, writing can feel like a dig, but this day was covered with ease.
There’s something so beautiful about joining like-minded hearts together to write a song straight to the Lord. I honor and respect every single person that poured their heart into this project. I feel so grateful to have gotten to work with such pure people to present this offering.
