Unarmed Pastor and Congregants Stop Church Shooter

The heroic actions of a pastor and several members of Oasis Tabernacle Church in Selma, Alabama saved several lives this Sunday morning. Pastor Earl Carswell, 61, was shot in the leg while subduing a man named James Junior Minter, who police say walked into the service with the intention of shooting his girlfriend and infant son. The two were both injured—the woman was shot in the shoulder and the baby in the hand—but thanks to actions of Carswell and several members of the church who were able disarm Minter, they are expected to survive. Police were able to catch the alleged shooter shortly after he fled the church. A police officer told reporters, “There were several heroes in there. It takes a lot when you have someone with a firearm that’s actually firing upon a person in a closed-quarters area, and you do whatever you can with regards to your own life to protect someone else’s life.”
