UN: 1.6 Million in Central African Republic Urgently Need Food

According to a U.N. report, nearly a third of the population of the conflict-plagued Central African Republic is without food: “About 1.6 million people directly affected by the crisis are in need of urgent food,” the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Program said Monday. A religious conflict between the country’s Christian and Muslim populations has devastated the region, displacing thousand and destroying much of the area’s agriculture industry. The U.N. urged international leaders to contribute more funds and support to the rebuilding and peacekeeping efforts in CAR. The Chief Economist at the World Food Program, Arif Husain, told AFP, “First and foremost, we need to see the violence stop. At the same time, we need to help save lives and rebuild livelihoods. Every passing day only makes emergency assistance more difficult and more expensive and leads to the loss of more innocent lives.”

There are some organizations doing valuable work in CAR. You can donate here to help them …
