Last night, the Texas House provisionally approved new measures that make abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy illegal in the state. The measure will now go before the Republican-controlled Senate, where it is expected to pass. Some of the additional provisions in the bill, like one that makes it illegal for public hospitals to assist patients following an abortion, would require many abortion clinics in Texas to close. As ABC News points out, if signed into law, the new restrictions could be struck down in Federal Court.
