Survey Time: Help Us Make Our 10th Anniversary Issue

The RELEVANT team is hard at work on what will be our 10th Anniversary issue in March. We don't have to give away too much about all the goodies we have planned for the shindig, but there are at least a few things we'll need your help with. And the first one is for you to head over to this one-page survey we put together, and answer this question: Which national voices have most influenced your life and faith in the last decade? We've put together a list of as many important Christian voices of faith as we could think of (and we left a write-in box for you, if we left someone out) and we can't wait to see your answers. So, get your vote on, and help us make our 10th anniversary issue ...

Whether they mean to or not, Relevantdefinitelyleans toward the "Caucasian Hipster" and it would be great to see them branch out in terms of diversity. Still, I think the people on the list can appeal to anyone. God's word doesn't have to be limited by race or gender they way we limit people.

You're right. And as white straight people we often forget just how much we do limit the word of God by not admitting other voices to the conversation, like Steve said. It doesn't have to be this way.

This was my thought. The only reason I'm even reading a Christian website right now is thanks to progressive Christian author Marcus Borg.

Somehow Piper can say things like "It's right for God to slaughter women and children as he pleases" and Mark Driscoll can literally scream "God hates you!" from the pulpit, insist womenshouldn'twork outside the home, all the while even people like Tim and Kathy Keller and Francis Chan are doing all they can to suppress the civil rights of GLBTQ folks and put a softer, calmer face on the same theology as Piper and Driscoll, and yet it is somehow not hate-speech because, apparently, it is "religious belief" and enough people believe it. It's enough to make one feel insane, or theequivalentof a Kafka novel.
