Subway to Remove Shoe Rubber Chemical from Its Bread

Good news five-dollar footlong fans! You can now enjoy your favorite Subway sandwich without consuming a chemical called Azodiacarbonamide, a substance also used to “increase elasticity” in items like shoes, yoga mats and fake leather. The sandwich chain’s use of the chemical—which is banned in the UK, across Europe and Australia—came under the spotlight after food bloggers complained about the “dough conditioner.” In a statement, Subway said, “We are already in the process of removing Azodiacarbonamide as part of our bread improvement efforts despite the fact that it is USDA and FDA approved ingredient.” Don’t worry, you’ll still smell like delicious Subway bread all day, even after spending just seconds in the restaurant …
