"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself and also sharks." These are the immortal words of President Franklin Roosevelt, and they ring true even today. However, a woman enjoying a swim off the coast of Maui named Mariko Haugen proved that you can be a little less afraid of sharks if you're a black belt in taekwondo. Haugen is, and when she was attacked by a 12-foot tiger shark, she unleashed her skills on it. She needed 100 stitches along her hand and thigh, but the shark is worse off than she is. It just goes to prove those other immortal words, "Speak softly, carry a big stick, and be a master in ancient forms of self defense" ...
