The internal investigation was sparked by an apology Williams issued earlier this year, after it came to light that the anchor exaggerated a story about having his helicopter hit by a rocket while embedded during the Iraq war. Soldiers present disputed his claim, saying that a different helicopter nearby was shot, not the one Williams was on.
