Report: AT&T Partnered with the NSA to Spy on Americans

According to newly released documents, communications company AT&T greatly helped the National Security Agency spy on American Internet users, including major customers like the United Nations. Though several companies have worked with the government, the documents say that AT&T had an “extreme willingness to help,” giving the NSA access to billions of emails. The documents were provided to The New York Times and ProPublica by whistleblower Edward Snowden. Warrantless wiretaps and the NSA’s massive surveillance program, revealed by for former contractor who now lives in Russia, have been widely criticized. The documents say that AT&T and their engineers had an extremely close relationship with the domestic spying projects, though, when asked for comment by the The Times, a spokesperson said, “We don’t comment on matters of national security.”
