Yesterday, a leaked video of Governor Mitt Romney addressing a room of wealthy campaign contributors revealed him speaking in uncharacteristically blunt terms about supporters of President Barack Obama. In the video, Romney says that, “There are 47 percent who are with [Obama], who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. These are people who pay no income tax.” He then said that his job “is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.” Addressing the video at a hastily arranged press conference last night, Romney did not back down from his stance, but said that his views were "not eloquently stated." He's talking strategyfor his campaign from what I can tell... And he's right. He doesn't need to focus his campaign on them, but on the Independents.

Please remember that the tax law is written that way. Just because someone doesn't pay federal income taxes doesn't mean they are scum. My dad doesn't but that is because his medical care is such a large expense that his income is dwarfed by it. And his income is job related - his pension and social security (he worked and contributed to it) and retirement funds he invested in with the money he earned.
