NYPD Officer Dies After Being Shot in the Face

A New York City police officer has died after being shot in the face following a brief confrontation with the suspect this weekend in Queens. Brian Moore, who was 25 years old, was working in plainclothes with his partner when they asked a man if he was carrying a weapon after seeing him adjusting his waistband. A moment later, police say Demetrius Blackwell opened fire. Brian Moore was sitting in his unmarked police car when he was shot. Blackwell has pleaded not guilty to the initial charges. In a statement, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said,

The shooting of Officer Brian Moore over the weekend was a deplorable act of violence that has robbed New York of one of its finest. As a member of the NYPD, Officer Moore put the safety of his fellow New Yorkers before his own, and we will remember his service with gratitude and pride. I join with all New Yorkers in mourning his passing and send my deepest condolences to his friends and family.
