Yesterday, an undisclosed buyer purchased this 62-year-old Norman Rockwell painting, “Saying Grace,” for an astounding $46 million—the most ever paid for a Rockwell painting. The late Americana artist only got $3,500 for it when he sold the now iconic painting to the Saturday Morning Post back in 1951. The downside of the auction is that if the new owner decides to display the painting privately, it can no longer be enjoyed by the public at Massachusetts’ Norman Rockwell Museum, where it’s been on loan for the last decade. A museum official told The Wire that they hope the wealthy bidder will consider keeping it where it can be enjoyed by everyone, “The person that has the one bid on the painting might feel that they want to share it to the public again and they might loan it to the museum again” …
