An NBC News Cameraman in Liberia Has Tested Positive for Ebola

A freelance American cameraman working with NBC News’ Dr. Nancy Snyderman has been diagnosed with Ebola while covering the outbreak that has killed more than 3,000 in West Africa. He is being brought back to the United States from Liberia for treatment. Two weeks ago, the 33-year-old posted on Facebook, “Man oh man, I have seen some bad things in the last two weeks of my life. How unpredictable and fraught with danger life can be. How in some parts of the world, basic levels of help and assistance that we take for granted completely don’t exist for many people.”

Ashoka Mukpo had worked in the region for years, and had reported for Al Jazeera and Vice News before being hired by NBC News. The president of the news organization told the staff, “We are doing everything we can to get him the best care possible. He will be flown back to the United States for treatment at a medical center that is equipped to handle Ebola patients” …
