Most Americans Side With Israel

A CNN poll says that most Americans feel Israel's attacks on Hamas in Palestine are justified, with 57% of respondents saying the military action was called for. "Although most Americans think the Israeli actions are justified, there are key segments of the public who don't necessarily feel that way," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Only four in ten Democrats think the Israeli actions in Gaza are justified, compared to 74% of Republicans and 59% of independents." The latest batch of fighting began last week when Hamas launched a rocket into Israel, and Israel responded with a series of aerial strikes. Currently, Palestinian emergency services are reporting 100 people have been killed in Gaza, with 750 injuries. Israel Defense Forces are reporting three deaths, with 70 injuries ...

the latest batch of fighting did not start when Hamas launched "a" rocket... over 300 have been launched in the last month, and over a thousand in the last year.

"A" rocket was not launched into Israel. Over 120 were, in the week preceding Israel's response. And since then, almost 900. And before then, over 700. Um, Slices...?

The "stand with Israel" mindset that permeates evangelicalism is so far from what we find taught in the pages of the Old Testament...and even farther from the pages of the New Testament. Thankfully there are voices from across the spectrum of evangelicalism that are beginning to rise up to challenge such folk-theology and call followers of Jesus--Jew and Gentile together!--back to the teachings of the Messiah.

There might still be a damaged connection between Obama and Netanyahu, but this should not get in the way of interaction between the nations.
