Massive Fertilizer Plant Explosion Rocks West, Texas

Authorities say that anywhere from five to 15 people were killed in a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas. They warn however, that the casualty count could rise. More than 180 have been injured. At least 2,800 local residents were evacuated from the surrounding area. The blast was so large that it caused a 2.1-magnitude seismic event and shook houses as far as 50 miles away. A four-block area surrounding the plant was completely leveled, destroying as many as 70 houses.

Officials in the area say they are still concerned that another tank at the facility could explode, causing another massive blast. They have also warned local residents of the danger of ammonia gas, which can result from fertilizer explosions and cause serious injuries after exposure …
