Justice Department to Launch Civil Rights Investigation into Ferguson Police

Two federal officials have told the Washington Post that the Department of Justice is planning on launching a civil rights investigation into the Ferguson Police Department. The move by the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division comes after the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, criticism of how the department handled releasing information following the shooting and their crackdown on demonstrators. The new investigation will look at several local St. Louis police departments that, according to the Washington Post, “like Ferguson, are predominantly white departments serving majority African-American communities.” The move by Attorney General Eric Holder comes on the heals of a separate investigation by the Justice Department that is determining if officer Darren Wilson violated Brown’s civil rights in the shooting …
