J.K. Rowling Sends a Letter Written By Dumbledore to 15-Year-Old Texas Shooting Survivor

A few weeks ago, we heard the unimaginably horrific story of a young girl who lost her parents and four siblings to her murderous uncle. 15-year-old Cassidy Stay survived her uncle’s rampage by pretending to be dead before calling the police, and was the lone survivor in her immediate family. When she recently spoke at her family’s memorial service, she quoted Dumbledore’s words in The Prisoner of Azkaban, saying “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Word of this made its way to J.K. Rowling, who allegedly sent Cassidy a letter “written” by Dumbledore, telling her what Rowling believes the Hogwarts headmaster (who has some experience dealing with tragedy) would want her to know. Neither Rowling nor Cassidy has made the exact contents of the letter public. In the meantime, a GoFundMe page for Cassidy has raised over $400,000 and is still accepting donations …
